This website provides access to the open data of official development aid projects and programmes in IATI format, started after January 2015 and executed by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland – RVO.nl). These projects are commissioned and funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The data is published in the international International Aid Transparancy Initiative (IATI) standard, which is easy for computers to read, but very hard for humans.
Our platform extracts RVO’s raw IATI data from the IATI registry and presents it in an easy-to-use web interface, providing not only detailed project information, but aggregated data on countries, sectors and financial transactions. It does not alter or interpret the data in any way.
In October 2015, we were asked by RVO to bring their IATI file to a broader public by means of a Transparency Portal. Based on our previous work, we were able to produce this portal in under 8 weeks. Making use of our OIPA IATI data-engine, our main focus was making sure the RVO data had a clear divide between programmes and projects. As you can see on the RVO portal, they run 15 different programmes, which consist of 820 different projects. Using OIPA, we are now able to automatically make the differentiation between a programme and a project activity.
With the help of OIPA, RVO is now able to directly map their IATI XML version 1.03, partially produced with the CSV2IATI convertor, to version 2.0.1, without any pain. We provided RVO with a back-end that enables them to create IATI compliant activity data, based on internal RVO data. They can also update existing or new activities with any relevant project information, both on transaction and media level. For example, enriching the activities with images, videos and other related media files that may be of interest to visitors.
Up till now, The Netherlands Enterprise Agency published and updated its projects on a quarterly basis, but with the new portal will focus on more frequent updates of their data.
