Zimmerman at Berlin Buzzwords

Berlin Buzzwords 2011 is a conference for developers and users of open source software projects. It focuses on the issues of scalable search, data-analysis in the cloud and NoSQL-databases.

Berlin Buzzwords presents more than 30 talks and presentations of international speakers specific to the three tags “search”, “store” and “scale”. This conference for developers was held in Berlin for the second time this year.

Siem Vaessen, one of the partners at Zimmerman & Zimmerman, spoke at Berlin Buzzwords 2011.

Project ZieOok – Berlin Buzzwords 2011

Sound and Vision is one of the consortium partners in the project ‘Images for the Future’. The archives of the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision (Sound and Vision) in Hilversum, of EYE in Amsterdam, and of the National Archive in The Hague contain the visual history of the past 100 years. Films, documentaries, radiobroadcast, and television programmes comprise more than 700.000 hours worth of material. The costs for creating this oeuvre have run into the billions. The educational, cultural, and economical value of this material is unprecedented.

Sound and Vision will develop an open recommendation engine called ‘SeeAlso’. This can be used as a tool by all content platforms that have been or will be launched as part of project ‘Images for the Future’.

Zimmerman & Zimmerman has previously been asked to design a market analysis of all the various and suitable open source frameworks, and to analyse how to enforce this new technology for its specific purpose.
